2017 Citizens for Easton Farm Tour Moved to Staples for Added Space for Activities and Community Picnic
This year’s celebration of Easton’s farms will take place on Saturday, August 12, from 10am to 2pm. But this year, the self-guided tour of Easton farms will begin at Samuel Staples Elementary School Pavilion, 515 Morehouse Road, Easton, Connecticut, where event passes and a map of participating farms, farm stands, and activity locations will be distributed. The SSES Pavilion will offer more parking, room for food trucks, a field for games and space for a community picnic following the Farm Tour, which Citizens For Easton hosts every August to salute local farmers.
The day will include many family-oriented activities including tastings, Easton Garden Club, Easton Historical Society, Easton Community Center events, antique farm tool exhibits, and games, growing demonstrations, and pick your own activities. Families can visit a petting zoo and tour greenhouses. Everyone will be able to sample Easton grown and harvested veggies and fresh fruits and learn about beekeeping, gardening and composting. This year’s free prize drawing in the CFE Booth will include many donations from Easton’s farms and businesses.
Throughout the afternoon there will be food and entertainment and old-time fun and games. Opportunities to learn about “growing your own” and composting will be at the Master Gardener and Master Composter booth and volunteers will be on hand from the Easton Agricultural Commission. The Aspetuck Land Trust will offer history about the 34-acre Randall’s Farm Nature Preserve. Easton Garden Club volunteers will provide lessons and fun for children. The Easton Community Center will be on hand providing fun and games for the whole family.
There will be lots of lawn space for blankets, umbrellas and camp chairs at the First Annual Community Picnic from 2:30 – 4:30 at the Pavilion. Skinny Pines – an Easton-based purveyor of wood-fired pizza – will be on site with their mobile wood-fired oven selling pizzas along with Edison’s Famous Ice Cream and Rise Brewing Company. Dan Tressler & Friends will be performing live music, and there will be a pick-up family kickball game.
Citizens For Easton, official hosts for the event, is a service organizations dedicated to the preservation and conservation of Easton’s land, air, water and rural character. For more information check out: www.citizensforeaston.org and click on the Farm Tour tab.
